F.O.C.U.S. on the YOUTH

Youth F.O.C.U.S was launched after Marla Moore, Executive Director, moved from the United States to Conakry to work in Media with her husband, a Guinean national. She noticed that the youngsters in the Matam Bonfi community live in stark deprivation. 

In addition to battling hunger and missing out on school, there is nothing for the children to do. They play in dirty lots and side streets. Old bottles, cans, sticks or plastic bags serve as makeshift toys. Watching the kids make race cars out of discarded cans and bottle tops inspired Marla to find a creative solution to their plight. 

What began as an idea to provide food and a clean place to play evolved into partnering with Madame Mariama Camara, Esq, educator and primary school founder. Madame Camara's classroom expertise and lively curriculum keeps Guinea's most vulnerable citizens from being totally left behind. 

There is no "one size fits all" solution to ending poverty, but by focusing on the immediate needs of these young people, we are giving them hope for a brighter future.
